Dreadstump the Pirate King (Rev. 43)

Last updated: X.32.5.0

Dreadstump the Pirate King is the boss of the Pirate Cave. He is found in a large, circular room and will be surrounded by minions.

The Realm Eye says:
Once the most dreaded pirate that has ever put a sail to the wind, Dreadstump has become quite complacent wasting away in his hideout.
He was responsible for extorting liquor as Oryx’s tax, but was found drinking it.
Oryx created the Hermit God to protect his endangered supply of booze from him.

Behavior

Dreadstump is initially found at the end of a large ship in the Pirate Cave. Upon being approached or attacked, he will begin the fight.

Phase 1

Taunt: “Hah! I’ll drink my rum out of your skull!”
“Hah! I’ll cut ye into parrot crackers!”

Dreadstump attacks the nearest player with rapid yellow shots while keeping his distance.

Phase 2

Taunt: “Arrrr…”
Dreadstump starts circling players, alternating between single cutlass shots and single cannonballs. Occasionally he will flash red and say “Eat cannonballs!” before Armoring himself and firing three larger cannonballs with higher velocity and damage.

Phase 3

Taunts: “I’ll turn you into a hearth-rug!”
“Ye trifle with the strongest fleet on the high seas!”

Dreadstump runs to the other side of the ship and taunts “Fire the cannons!” The four cannons near the front of the ship and the two near the back will start firing large cannonballs down the ship’s length. Meanwhile, Dreadstump will circle the ship’s mast, alternating between a pair of cutlass shots and a triple-shot of cannonballs.

Phase 4

Dreadstump Armors himself (increasing his DEF by 50%) and repeats the previous attack pattern, but occasionally flashes red and releases several larger fast cannonballs alongside spreads of smaller ones, signified by one of the following insults:
“Macrocephalic baboon!”
“Antediluvian jobbernowl!”
“Ten thousand thundering typhoons!”
“You odd-toed ungulate!”
“Blue-blistering barnacles!”

Tips and Strategies

Dreadstump is an easy boss, but he plays an important part for teaching newer players about how dungeons work. Specifically, he teaches the new player two things: The boss has a more elaborate design than the standard enemies with multiple clear phases, and that it provides a significantly greater challenge.

Because Dreadstump is initially passive, you can safely slaughter his minions without him ever attacking you. This gives you time to ready yourself if necessary, and once you’re prepared you can simply fire a shot at him.

His large cannonballs should be avoided at all costs, as they can deal significant damage to an unarmored player.

Dreadstump can drop very good equipment for his tier, up to T4 Weapons and Armors! If you’re lucky, a quick stop to the dungeon may get you set for the midlands.
