Behavior

The Abyss idol is dormant in the middle of the room until it is damaged, upon which it will activate. It will quickly seal off the entrance to the room with lava and begin firing spreads of 3 golden bullets at the nearest player. It will also constantly fire radial bursts of golden waves around it, as well as constantly fire large golden blasts along the diagonal directions that inflict heavy damage and Paralysis. Throughout the fight, it will constantly throw yellow bombs that turn large parts of the floor into temporary lava.

Once the boss dies, all lava disappears from the room.

Note: Unlike Archdemon Malphas, the Potion of Defense is a guaranteed drop from the Abyss Idol.

Tips and Strategies

A good tip is to NOT stand diagonally from the Abyss Idol, as the big bullets he shoot diagonally paralyze you, if you get paralyzed while in lava you may not have enough time to react and nexus. Also note that lava will be spawning as you are damaging the idol, so make sure you are in a safe place!

During the fight, the hallway used to enter the room will fill with lava. Usually after you kill the Idol, the lava will dissipate so players can exit. Sometimes, however, the hallway will remain filled with lava – this is indicative of another treasure room being present within the dungeon.1

Another tip - If you think you cannot kill the Abyss Idol, then kill Malphas, and then go back to the treasure room and try.

  1. While there’s no undeniable proof that this is the case, it seems to be that on some occasions, the existence of multiple treasure rooms in an abyss will cause the hallway’s lava triggers to behave oddly – in this case, not despawning at the correct time.
