Master Rat

The Master Rat is the treasure room boss of the Toxic Sewers.

The Realm Eye says:
The Master Rat is an enigmatic man whose life forever changed when he was turned into a rodent. His riddles are complex. But not without answer.
If you are asked “How do you like your pizza?”, it is in your best interest to answer with “Extra cheese, hold the anchovies.”
If you are asked “What is fast, quiet and hidden by the night? “, it is in your best interest to answer with “A ninja of course!”
If you are asked “Where is the safest place in the world? “, it is in your best interest to answer with “Inside my shell.”
If you are asked “Who did this to me?”, it is in your best interest to answer with “Dr. Terrible, the mad scientist.”
If you are asked “What time is it?”, it is in your best interest to answer with “It’s pizza time!”

Behavior

The Master Rat is found in a larger room within the Sewers with four grates, a number of destructible training dummies, and several harmless turtles roaming about. When approached, he will provide a taunt before initiating battle.
”Adventurers of the realms atop, let me test your strength!”

Phase 1
The Master Rat circles closely around the center of the room, leaving a trail of Void Stars that will remain stationary for a second before gradually accelerating and flying at players.

Phase 2
At 66% HP, the Master Rat starts circling faster in a bigger circle, adding in four-way bursts of Void Slashes that will fly a certain distance before stagnating and becoming temporary hazards.

Phase 3
At 33% HP, the Master Rat picks up speed again and starts hugging the edges of the room while circling. His 4-way attack is replaced by a constant stream of decelerating Void Slashes aimed at the nearest player.

Defeat
“Impressive skill, it looks like the Nexus is still in good hands!”
When brought to 1 HP, the Master Rat will go invulnerable and retreat to the top of the room, becoming harmless. He will then spawn a box in the center of the room that can be attacked and killed for loot.
“Here, take this for your trouble.”

Tips and Strategies

Knights and classes that can inflict Red Down Arrow Slowed can make this fight much easier, especially with high level pets with magic heal that can allow classes to chain stuns and slows. If without either debuff, then focus more on dodging. Master Rat’s shots are highly damaging, especially to an unmaxed mid-game player. Try to anticipate when his shots will accelerate outwards. Stay as close as possible to Master Rat in order to deal more damage if you are more confident or tanky. This is easier when he’s circling towards the inner and middle parts of the room, but it may be more difficult when he’s circling the outer edges if you’re on a class with lower base SPD.

Answer: Inside my shell.

Question: What is fast, quiet and hidden by the night?
Answer: A ninja of course!

In Exalt Version 2.2.2.0 (Feb 2022), the Master Rat became immune to stasis.

Trivia

The Master Rat is a reference to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; being a rat similar to Splinter, living in the sewers, dropping ninja equipment and spawning turtles. In addition, he also mentions pizza, a favorite food of the ninja turtles.

Judging from the colors of his weapon and attacks, the Master Rat appears to wield the Void Blade. This is further supported by his main attack pattern being a modified version of the Void Blade’s own shot pattern.
