These entities were scrapped |
---|
Around build 117.0.1 there was not just one type of Mysterious Crystal, but three that varied in size ranging from small, to large with the medium variant in between. These crystals were part of the game before the Crystal Prisoner was ever in the game. Each crystal had some dialogue and were later all later scrapped to make room for only one variant of the Mysterious Crystal that would spawn the Crystal Prisoner upon being cracked. As the crystal spoke before the Crystal Prisoner was implemented it most likely was already a planned entity or then implemented as to make more sense for who was doing the speaking. Before this however each of the crystals had rewards for being cracked and the bigger the crystal the more damage was needed and the more rewarding it was too. This change was announced by Alex & Rob on June 23rd on the release of build 117.1 as seen here or on the RealmEye release history here.
All of the three crystals all had the in-game name: Mysterious Crystal
while their actual names were Small Crystal
, Medium Crystal
& Large Crystal
.
Developer notes are known regarding the concept of the crystals. They go:
“An event device that brings people together large groups large groups to fight a big boss.
- Starts idle
- Prompts players to attack it.
- If they can do X damage in Y time, they get a cool boss battle.
- If they can’t, they are prompted to gather more players.” - Unknown Dev, build 117.0.1 client.

Each crystal has 6 states that makes up their behaviors. The first state is the Idle
state where the crystal has a probability of 0.2
to say one of the following lines:
“Break the crystal for great rewards…”
“Help me…”
The moment a player damages the crystal below 0.999900
HP the crystal will transition to its Instructions
state where it will start flashing white and have a probability of 0.24
to taunt one of the following lines:
“Fire upon this crystal with all your might for 5 seconds”
“If your attacks are weak, the crystal magically heals”
“Gather a large group to smash it open”
While being in the Instructions
state the crystal will revert back to the Idle
state after 10
seconds unless it is damaged below 0.99800
HP which is the equivalent to players doing 1000
damage to trigger the start. So in short players must do 1000
damage in 10
seconds to get to the next state.
The next state is Evaluation
. At this point of the behavior players must do more damage to crack the crystal. In the Evaluation
state players have 5
seconds to do 10.000
damage. During this state the crystal heals every 5 seconds and must be damaged below 0.980000
HP to trigger the next state: StartBreak
. The player(s) has 60
seconds to achieve this otherwise the crystal will transition to the state: Fail
.
During the Evaluation
state the crystal has 3 sub-states: Comment1
, Comment2
& Comment3
that the crystal cycles through while being in the Evaluation
state. Each of the comment states lasts for 5 seconds where each sub state has the following probabilities to taunt the following lines:
Note: The crystal will only ever enter state: Comment1
once when Evaluation
is triggered.
“Some is trying to steal the sweet treasure inside a crystal!” (probability: guaranteed
)
“Yes! Smash my prison for great rewards!” (probability: 0.8
)
“That’s the spirit. Lay your fire upon me.” (probability: 0.9
)
“So close…” (probability: 0.9
)
“I think you need more people…” (probability: 0.9
)
“Call all your friends to help you break the crystal!” (probability: 0.9
)
If the players fail on cracking the crystal and it enters the Fail
state it will guaranteed taunt the following:
“Perhaps you need a bigger group. Ask others to join you!”
Following by it flashing and returning to the Idle
state.
Should the player(s) crack the crystal it will enter the StartBreak
state and taunt the following:
“You cracked the crystal! Soon we shall emerge! You might want to back away…”
The crystal will then start flashing and 2 seconds later enter the final state: BreakCrystal
.
During this state the crystal will taunt the following:
“This your reward! Imagine hat evil even Oryx needs to keep locked up!”
After which the crystal will spawn the rewards (scroll down to see these) and then explode into 16 White Bullets.
The Medium Crystal has the exact same behavior and dialogue except for the challenge in terms of how much damage must be dealt. During the Instructions
state players must deal the same amount as on the Small Crystal but during the Evaluation
state player(s) must now deal 30.000
damage in 5 seconds.
The Large Crystal also has the exact same behavior, this time with a higher health threshold and a slightly unique dialogue during the BreakCrystal
state.
During the Evaluation
state players must do 50.000
damage in 5 seconds, and once achieved the crystal will say:
“You cracked the crystal! Soon we shall emerge! You might want to BACK AWAY..!!”
Each crystal spawned a small group of entities on death as reward, this was before the Crystal Prisoner took their place. Each crystal guaranteed one of each listed mobs below as a reward, it was not just one of them per crystal.
The Small Mysterious Crystal will spawn one of each of the following enemies before exploding as a reward:
The Medium Mysterious Crystal reward is one of each of the following entities:
The Large Mysterious Crystal reward also spawned one of each of the following mobs and was kind of wild considering how much harder the game was for its build (117.0.1) at the time:
The three crystal variations were removed from the game and replaced with the Mysterious Crystal as we know it now in build 117.1.
There has been no videos nor screenshots of these crystals so far and all this data was recovered from old swf flashplayer clients saved by community members.
