Research Logs

This page groups the research logs from the computer in The Nest. One random log will be displayed after defeating The Beekeeper and entering the correct password (Dr Terrible). The creation of the dungeon is partly explained in these lines in the form of logbooks (note the dates are in day/month/year). The logs reveal that Dr Terrible is the identity of The Beekeeper and the narrator of the logs.

Research log 1: 12/1/2017 –- The Mad God came by today, he wanted me to strengthen his latest creation, The Hive.
He pleaded that “those barbaric leeches” were able to destroy it within a minute. I was promised a doubled salary if I could successfully reinforce the Queen and her minions.
But does he know that he pays me nothing at all?

Research log 2: 23/1/2017 –- Research is slow. Humans continue to come into my laboratory and destroy it…
I need to hide my work well. If the humans find it, I am in peril. Oryx would be furious!
He would certainly exile me from his Realm… I don’t think I’ll be able to survive being exiled again.

Research log 3: 6/2/2017 –- Eureka! A breakthrough! Oryx will be pleased!
I have mixed the bees’ honey with an 18M Pure Evil solvent, and 7.45% Ambrosia… The Honey became extremely acidic and the results were immediate!
The Bee that I’ve captured from The Hive grew extremely aggressive and nearly escaped! …Tomorrow, I will try my creation on the Queen!

Research log 4: 8/2/2017 -– My concoction works surprisingly well… Only moments after exposing the Queen to it, she began to metamorphose!
It seems to genetically alter the bees, their agressiveness[sic] increases by roughly 400% and they segregate by 3 types after hatching[sic]
Any experiment that I’ve sent in to try and measure the Queen’s strength did not even last a minute…

Research log 5: 12/2/2017 –- Today, I attempted to show my progress to The Mad God.
But when I prepared the containment room, the Queen escaped!! She ravaged my laboratory and flew off to who-knows where.
I’m in great luck that some Knights prevented the Mad God from attending my grand exposure.
I’ve heard Oryx suffers from amnesia again, must be the wine… Perhaps he forgot about my project?

Research log 6: 13/2/2017 – This is perilous! I’ve located the Queen, but she has started construction of a Nest hidden in the Realm!
I must go after it… I cannot let this creation rampage without knowing its potential!
I trust that my simulacrum technology will guard the laboratory, as it usually does. I just hope no humans find traces of my research…

Research log 7: 18/2/2017 –- At last, I have reached the Nest. It grew faster than I had anticipated.
I managed to infiltrate in one of its outskirts. Hopefully, I can set up a research facility here, undetected.
I sealed off the entrance to this place. Humans will not easily find it, although it is only a matter of time…

Research log 8: 28/2/2017 – My experiment is more powerful than I had imagined. This nest is growing by 12% volume per day!
I have also isolated a compelling side effect to my concoction. Some of the bees grow gigantic and take leadership over the small hives they live in.
I am unsure what causes this to occur. It must be an unknown component within the Pure Evil, although I cannot analyze it here.

Research log 9: 5/3/2017 – It seems that the segregation between types is determined from birth. Today, I nearly hurt myself from being too close by an egg. Even the larvae are extremely aggressive!
The segregation appears to come in three types distinguishable by color. Each type takes on a different task within the Nest.
These creatures are extremely powerful on their own, but it appears they work together to destroy intruders.

Research log 10: 19/3/2017 – These “Killer” Bees are more intelligent than I assumed!
Yesterday, I sent in a recon bot to explore the Hive. I found the Queen’s den undetected, but as soon as she noticed me, nearby leaders surrounded her in protection.
I lost connection quickly after that. It seems the Queen pierced trough[sic] my heavily armored bot in a single sting!

Research log 11: 2/4/2017 – I have deviced multiple recon and assault bots to explore the strength of these killer bees.
Most did not make it far, but each one brought new revelations on the intelligence and power of my creation.
The smaller bees will give their life to protect the leader of their type. The leaders will strongly guard their homes, the Mini Hives within the Nest.
The Mini Hives are not defenseless, also. As soon as they detect an assailant, they will call upon nearby Leader Bees to protect them.
None of my bots were able to destroy any Hives. Their destructive power was too much…

Research log 12: 30/4/2017 – At last! One of my recon bots has managed to successfully escape The Nest!
I cannot communicate with it anymore, but it should attempt to reach out for an emergency call to Oryx.
Hopefully, he will be pleased by this place and its killing potential, and free me from it! If not, I’ll remain stuck here until… Humans find me. And I’m sure they won’t be pleased to see me here.

Research log 13: 23/5/2017 – I do not know how many days it has been, were it not for these logs.
To pass time, I’ve captured a few unsuspecting bees, to experiment with.
Maybe I will bee able to perfect them even more…

Research log 14: 12/6/2017 –- After many experiments with the bees I captured, I can safely conclude that these creatures are the pinnacle of insect evolution.
Despite these insects’ perfection, I have still managed to make an enhancement in my favor.
After countless tries, I managed to wrangle the bees’ minds into doing what I say.
Soon, I will control this entire Nest, command the most powerful army the world has seen, and take the Realm as mine!

Research log 15: 18/7/2017 – I heard something enter the Nest! My rescue has arrived?
I really hope Oryx isn’t furious with my creation. Certainly he won’t be?
I only fear…what if it wasn’t Oryx’s army…

Research log 16: 22/7/2019 – At last. My magnum opus is complete! Oryx will look fondly upon me now!
I have successfully mutated the entire colony to perfection. Unethical, but unbeatable!

The logs ends with the message “Error! Intruders detected. Shutting down…”
