Balaam (Rev. 18)

Last updated: X.15.1.0
Balaam (Combined)Balaam (Winged)Balaam (Crown)Balaam (Minotaur)

Balaam is a miniboss that is found in the Cultist Hideout, a secret area in the Lost Halls. He will uniquely divide up into 3 different forms upon his first death.

The Realm Eye says:
In myths, Balaam is said to be a demon lord with flawless knowledge of both past and future events. However, this is little more than a fable.
His only true existence is an image made reality by the will of Malus. The force known as Azamoth brought this desire into the physical plane.

Behavior

Balaam is summoned by the Culists when they are all at about 1/2 HP. Like Molek before him, he spawns in the middle of the pentagram in the room.

In combat, Balaam starts off in his Combined Form. He wanders in place, firing 3 different types of attacks.

  • Radial bursts of Green Shots that inflict darkness and return to him.
  • Spreads of Blue Shots that pierce armor.
  • 3-directional Red Shots that are slow but deal enormous damage and pierce players.

Once Balaam’s HP has been depleted, he divides into 3 versions of himself: his Crowned, Winged, and Minotaur forms. Each form has 2/3 of the Combined Form’s health and can only use the respectively colored attack that the Combined Form used (Green for Winged, Blue for Crowned and Red for Minotaur). His Winged Form will stay in the center of the room, the Crowned Form will chase players and the Minotaur Form will circle the room.

Once all three forms are dead, Balaam will be defeated and the Cultists will reappear.

Tips and Strategies

As soon as Balaam splits, it is suggested to kill the Minotaur (red) first as it is the most dangerous.

Trivia

In Biblical texts, Balaam was a prophet of God who was offered a large reward by the king of Moab to curse the Israelites. However, since God did not want to, he blessed them instead, angering the king. However, he eventually gave in to temptation, and since he could not curse them himself, he told the king how to corrupt the Israelites, resulting in God bringing down a plague on them.

Balaam’s split forms give 666 XP each, a reference to the Biblical number of the beast.
