Marble Colossus

The Marble Colossus is the main boss of the Lost Halls.

The perfect creation of the necromantic cult designed to be the ultimate weapon against Oryx. Its mind is controlled by an unknown presence, causing it to attack the heroes of the realm.- Original Description

The Realm Eye says:
The Marble Colossus is the product of years of research and development for a perfect weapon against Oryx.
Like all golems, it is powered and operated by a soul inside of it. However, it was seized at the very last moment by the Void Entity and is now controlled by much darker forces than intended.
Should the weaponized titan ever make its way out of the Lost Halls, it would lay waste to the realm.

Behavior

The Marble Colossus does not have a Quest Marker and is found in a large room, guarded by the Marble Defender. When approached, he will slowly activate and shut off the door to the room shortly after.

Throughout the fight, he will spawn 4 Marble Colossus Pillars in the corners of the room that fire status shots. He will respawn them every 35 seconds. Whenever the Colossus switches phases (signified by a taunt), he will gain a couple seconds of invulnerability.

Phase 1

Taunt: “Look upon my mighty bulwark.”
The Colossus spawns the Pillars for the first time. He continuously fires two alternating rings of 15 black stun boomerangs. These rings interlock at a range of 4 tiles from the colossus; don’t stand within that radius. He is Armored during this phase.

Phase 2

Taunt: “You doubt my strength? FATUUS! I will destroy you!”
At 94% HP, the Colossus chases the nearest player, firing a 4-way shotgun blast of five armor piercing slashes aimed in said player’s direction. The Colossus will continuously fire a ring of eight silver boomerangs that slow players they hit during this phase.

Phase 3

Taunt: “I cast you off!”
At 88% HP, the Colossues moves to the center of the room and Armors itself again. It begins spawning Marble Colossus Rocks in groups of 3. These will slowly follow players before expoding into rings of highly damaging shots. The Colossus will also begin firing clockwise-rotating shotguns of Colossal Slashes along the cardinal directions.

Phase 4

Taunt: Your fervent attacks are no match for my strength! BEGONE!”
At 82% HP, the Colossus fires an 6-armed spiral of Colossal Bullets that slowly rotates clockwise, similar to the Forgotten King in the Shatters. It is important not to touch the lasers, as each bullet does 300 damage and taking the full laser is usually guaranteed death. Note that he retains the Armored status for this phase as well.

He will also begin to fire radial bursts of Colossal Blasts that Paralyze and aimed 3-round spreads of large Colossal Spears that inflict Unstable. It is imperative to avoid the yellow Colossal Blasts, as paralysis can lead to a run-in with the lasers.

Phase 5

Taunt: “INSOLENTIA! Darkness will consume you!”
At 76% HP, the Colossus rapidly circles the room counter-clockwise, firing multidirectional streams of Colossal Wheels and radial bursts of parametric Colossal Stars that confuse. He will also be throwing Red Bombs with a wide radius.

Phase 6

Taunt: “Brace for your demise!”
At 70% HP, the Colossus moves back to the center of the room and Armors himself again. It begins firing a 4-armed spiral of Colossal Wheels that rotates clockwise. He begins spawning the exploding Rocks again, this time in groups of 4.

Phase 7 (Marble Core)

Taunt: “Futility!”
At 64% HP, the Colossus turns invulnerable, spawns a Marble Core, and begins firing rapid, dense rings of Colossal Rocks that pierce armor and inflict Silence. He will continue spawning the exploding rocks, but will only spawn 2 at a time now.

This is his first Marble Core Phase: the battle will not progress until his Marble Core is destroyed. The Core cannot attack and will slowly rotate around the room counter-clockwise at a medium distance.

Phase 8

Taunt: “Call of voice, for naught. Plea of mercy, for naught. None may enter this chamber and live!”
The Colossus heals himself to 64% HP and quickly chases players while firing rings of Colossal Balls that Paralyze. He also summons a colored Marble Colossus Rock that orbits the room while firing spirals of status shots, switching shot types every few seconds.

At 58% HP, he will taunt: “SANGUIS! OSSE! CARO! Feel it rend from your body!” and begin firing radial bursts of confusing Colossal Stars.

At 52% HP, he will taunt: “PESTIS! The darkness consumes!” and add in a directed 3-shot spread of Colossal Spears. The special Marble Colossus Rock will begin orbiting the room faster and closer to the edges.

Phase 9

Taunt: “Enough! Pillars, serve your purpose!”
At 46% HP, the Colossus moves the colored Marble Colossus Rock to the center of the room, where it remains stationary while firing spirals of shots. The Colossus itself will be circling the room counter-clockwise, firing wide shotguns of Colossal Spears that do heavy damage. He will alternate between circling along the edges of the room and near the center.

Phase 10 (Marble Core)

Taunt: “Perish, blights upon this realm!”
At 40% HP, the Colossus turns invulnerable and spawns two Marble Cores that orbit the room at a far distance in opposite directions (one clockwise and one counter-clockwise). He also spawns in another special Marble Colossus Rock, both of which begin orbiting the boss at a far distance while firing. The boss himself will be in the middle of the room, firing rings of Colossal Rocks and spreads of Colossal Spears.

Like before, both Marble Cores must be killed to advance past this phase.

Phase 11

Taunt: “You have seen your last glimpse of sunlight!”
The Colossus heals itself to 40% HP, Armors itself again, respawns any dead pillars and fires the “lasers” of Colossal Bullets in a 3-armed spiral formation that rotates clockwise. The Colossus Rocks begin to orbit him closely while bombarding players with shots.

Phase 12 (Marble Core)

Taunt: “PATI! The prohibited arts allow untold power!”
At 34% HP, the Colossus turns invulnerable and spawns two more Marble Cores, one that orbits the room at a far distance and one that circles him closely. Both rotate in a clockwise direction. Despawning the Colossus Rocks, the Colossus quickly dashes at the nearest player before unleashing several rings of Colossal Spinners all around it. It will then fire several spreads of Colossal Spears at the nearest player before dashing again.

Like before, the Marble Cores must be destroyed to progress the battle.

Phase 13

Taunt: “It is my duty to protect these catacombs! You dare threaten my purpose?”
Healing himself to 34% HP, moving back to the center of the room and Armoring itself, the Colossus fires omnidirectional, oscillating streams of small Colossal Spears that inflict Unstable. He also aims a 3-shot spread of larger Colossal Spears at the nearest player, while firing radial bursts of his parametric Colossal Stars.

Phase 14

Taunt: “Magia saps from my body… My immense physical strength STILL REMAINS!”
At 28% HP, the Colossus starts summoning trios of the explosive Marble Colossus Rocks again, and continues firing 3-shot spreads of Colossal Spears at the nearest player. All Marble Colossus Pillars will flash white and permanently gain the Armored status from this point onwards.

At 22% HP, he will taunt “Fear the halls!” and replace the bursts of Colossal Stars with rings of silencing Colossal Rocks.

At 16% HP, he will taunt: “I… I am… Dying…” and spawn in a colored Marble Colossus Rock, which orbits him closely while firing.

Note that he retains the Armored status for this entire phase.

Phase 15 (Marble Core)

Taunt: “You… YOU WILL COME WITH ME!”
When he reaches 10% HP, the Colossus turns invulnerable and spawns 3 Marble Cores that rotate around the room at different speeds, directions, and distances - one fairly close that rotates counter-clockwise, one at a medium distance that rotates a bit more slowly counter-clockwise, and one at a far distance that rotates slowly clockwise. The Colossus also fires a 6-way spiral of his lasers that initially rotates clockwise. The Marble Colossus Rock will continue orbiting him and firing spirals of shots. The Colossus himself will also fire his spreads of Colossal Spears at the nearest player while firing rings of silencing bullets, and he also continues spawning trios of explosive Colossus Rocks.

Note that the direction the lasers rotate will change frequently during this phase, so caution is needed.

Once all three Marble Cores are defeated, he will move on to his next phase.

Phase 16

Taunt: “No…I cannot…”
The Marble Colossus heals to 10% HP and remains invulnerable. All Colossus Rocks despawn, and the boss begins firing rings of Colossal Spinners. After a few seconds, it will switch to firing wide shotguns of Colossal Slashes along the cardinal directions (choosing one direction at a time, rotating clockwise). Finally, after a few more seconds, it will fire a fast, 4-way spiral of black Colossal Wheels.

The gold coloration on the Marble Colossus will slowly drain over the course of his attacks. Once his spiral of Colossal Wheels has lasted for a few seconds, its gold parts will become completely dark and it will stop attacking for a moment. After a few seconds have passed, it will taunt “…!”, heal to 100% HP, and slowly regain its coloration before moving into its rage phase.

Phase 17

Taunt: “I CANNOT FAIL MY PURPOSE!”
The Colossus despawns all Marble Colossus Pillars and replaces them with unique yellow ones that discard their multicolored attacks with yellow ones that resemble the boss’ own attacks. The Colossus himself will be alternating between the following attack patterns at random.

  • Armoring itself, moving to the center of the room and firing omnidirectional, oscillating streams of small, paralyzing Colossal Balls.
  • Lunging at players before firing several rings of piercing Colossal Spinners.
  • Wandering the room erratically while firing rings of slower Colossal Balls.
  • Chasing players while firing 4-directional waves of Colossal Blasts.

Every time the Colossus loses a fifth of its HP, a golden part of its body will become indigo (like the Void Entity, and it will discard some of its attacks for void-based ones. Every time he reaches one of these HP thresholds, he will stop his current attack, briefly turn invulnerable, and start a new attack (though it may be the same attack he was just performing).

  • At 80% HP, its legs turn indigo and its oscillating stream attack will fire Silencing Void Spears instead. It will still be armored.
  • At 60% HP, its arms turn indigo and its slow Colossal Ball attack will fire much faster (but less dense) bursts of petrfying Void Rings instead. In addition, the Marble Colossus Pillars turn indigo and begin using void-based attacks.
  • At 40% HP, its chest turns indigo and its Colossal Blasts are replaced by Void Blasts.
  • At 20% HP, its head turns indigo and its Colossal Spinner attack will fire several fast rings of large void bullets instead. This attack is extremely dangerous, as the bullets do heavy armor-piercing damage and inflict Darkness.

Death (10% HP)

Taunt: “I feel myself… slipping… into the void… it is so… dark…”

At 10% HP, the Colossus retreats to the center of the room while flashing purple and is stationary for a bit as a mysterious purple crack expands beneath it. It then explodes into a massive ring of Colossal Spikes and Void Bullets as a final attempt to kill you, leaving your loot in tow.

If one has a Vial of Pure Darkness, they can use it on the purple crack to open a portal to The Void.

Tips and Strategies

The Colossus is an incredibly strong boss, and as such must be treated with the appropriate level of caution. A combination of firepower, skill, and teamwork is required to bring this beast down - healing classes in particular are incredibly coveted for this fight.

Even in large groups, try to dodge as extensively as possible. While not all of the boss’s attacks inflict extremely high damage, the high bullet density of the fight coupled with the status effects being inflicted can easily overwhelm players that try to tank them.

The respawning pillars in the corners of the room are a massive threat and should be dealt with as soon as possible. The status effects they inflict can be incredibly detrimental (especially DPS-impairing statuses during his Marble Core phases). However, beware - once you kill them, watch out for the slot where they’ll respawn, lest you want to run the risk of one spawning on you and killing you instantly.

Tricksters are incredibly useful for a number of his phases. Their decoys can bait the Colossus’ attention during phases where he chases or charges, greatly relieving the trouble of having to bait him yourself. It also makes the boss less likely to jump directly onto players and instakill them. Tricksters can also decoy away the exploding Marble Colossus Rocks to lessen the chances of players sitting on one and dying instantly.

Even if it may be obvious, it cannot be stressed enough to focus the Marble Cores whenever they appear. The sooner they’re killed, the shorter the boss’ phases and the less your chances of death are.

If you have a large group you must stay with in the group during his last Marble Core Phase. You will likely die if you get separated towards the end and have no way of healing yourself, due to your restricted movement and the massive amount of bullets during this phase.

If your character is a Necromancer it is recommended that you have the Skull of Corrupted Souls for the Marble Core phase because you can cause Curse for 4 seconds to the Marble Core at a great distance, which will considerably increase the DPS of your group, adding that you can heal them. However, for a Knight, it is highly recommended to use Shield of Ogmur for Marble Cores as it causes Armor Broken leaving their defense at 0 which is much more effective than Curse in terms of DPS.
