The 20 wisdom boost applies to the first cast of the scepter, and can stack 5 times if you cast as fast as possible. The damage calculation in the description breaks when doing this.
This scepter can be considered a direct upgrade to tiered scepters against crowds.
The first cast on a sorcerer with maxed wisdom (60 wis + 20 wis boost) does 380 damage to
6 targets; compared to a t6 scepter which does damage to 6 targets, and 380 only to the first target.
Compared to a t7 scepter at 60 wis (1,785 total damage to 6 targets; 410+365+320+275+230+185), just the first cast of this scepter does better damage to crowds, (2,280 total damage to 6 targets; 380x6), and damage increases with subsequent casts due to the wis boost.
With the full Court Magician Set on a fully maxed sorcerer, each ability activation does 710 damage to 13 targets. With the wis bonus upon ability activation, activating the ability a second time within 5 seconds would theoretically deal 770 damage to 14 targets. However, the negative MP bonuses from the set and ability activation gives leaves the sorcerer with a max MP of 100, only allowing the Sorcerer to cast the scepter twice in 5 seconds without the use of mana-modifying consumables or mana exaltations.
Another use of the Lightshow Scepter is to use the Wis boost gained from casting to empower another scepter’s cast, though outside of niche situations it is usually better off to use the mana to cast the ability you want another time.
History
Before Exalt Version 1.5.0.0 (May 2021), this item used to cost 125 mana to cast along with boosting Wis by +10 and reducing mana by -30 for 5 seconds on ability use.
