Behavior

Attack Phase 1:

The Mage starts by quickly pursuing the player while firing streams of Grey Missiles, but quickly stops this pursuit. After the pursuit is over, the Mage will hold his position, slowly moving around while continuing to fire a barrage of bullets. He spends most of his time in this phase.

Attack Phase 2:

The Mage stops moving, enters an invulnerable state and fires a sequence of radial blasts of Stone Slash projectiles dealing heavy damage.

Attack Phase 3:

A possible alternative to phase 2, the Mage does not shoot, instead summoning numerous spikes in a wide area in a random pattern. He is invulnerable during this time.

Tips and Strategies

Be aware of any Mages in pursuit or any active spawners in the vicinity - Mages can see you from a great distance!

For melee classes:

When fighting Stone Mages, approach until you are within 1-2 tiles distance and stop moving. At this distance every shot will pass harmlessly around you while the Mage is constantly vulnerable - see below. When the second phase occurs, back away and wait for the next opportunity.

See below for the proper way to approach and attack a stone mage safely.

For all other classes:

The same strategy as mentioned above is viable, however, positioning yourself just a tile too far or too close will result in rapid and extremely high damage. At no point should you stand at the intersection of his bullets.

Circle strafing is an ineffective strategy, as Mages’ shots track your movements, similar to Ent Gods. Be on the lookout for Stone Knights, as they move extremely fast and inflict paralysis, giving enough time for the Mage to center his shots and deal huge damage.
