Notes
Unlike other shields, this ability does not fire any shots. Instead, it calls down three sequential Exalted Beams on the cursor location, dealing armor-piercing AoE damage and stunning foes hit for 3 seconds (provided all beams land). This unique mechanic extends the maximum range from a paltry 2.5 tiles to an effective 4.75, which surpasses all other shields.
Unfortunately, it’s this sentry-like mechanic that also makes it less effective against faster-moving enemies. Not only will it miss most of its damage, its Stun duration naturally falls to a minimum of 1.4 seconds if only one beam hits. That isn’t to forget the cooldown either; if one misses the initial cast, they will likely miss their entire burst and be forced to wait until it recharges.
Nonetheless, it remains a highly effective shield that offers tremendous utility and power. Mastery of the shield’s peculiarities will allow the user to devastate most enemies.
It’s also worth noting that the Escutcheon gives slightly less DEF than other top-tiered shields, but offers a sublime SPD bonus in return. This can help the Knight’s mobility as it’s one of the slower classes without additional gear.
