The Tome of Holy Protection, or “Prot”, is an excellent and highly practical tome for all Priests. It gives a very useful effect on the user: Armored, which temporarily doubles the defense of the Priest who uses it, effectively making the Priest as tanky as a Knight for a short period of time.
It also heals a very large amount of health over a gigantic area of effect, which is another powerful edge that this tome gives. When using this tome, the Priest is potentially the most powerful tank in the entire game. However, this tome expends 120 mana, more than any other tome other than the Tome of Purification or the Book of Geb, and the tome itself is a rare drop that comes from one of the most dangerous and rare dungeons in the game, the Tomb of the Ancients.
This tome is commonly referred to as the most powerful tome in the game, for it allows the Priest to accomplish tasks that would be extremely hard (if not impossible) without it. It allows the Priest to easily rush the Abyss of Demons and other such dungeons, and most importantly, it provides a sort of cushion. If the Priest finds himself surrounded by lots of enemies, he can just use this tome to heal himself back to full health and reduce all incoming damage for a little bit. With a good Wisdom/MP ring (or a high leveled pet with Magic Heal), the Priest can ignore the high mana cost and use this tome permanently!
It’s also noteworthy to mention that this tome has a great feed power, so if you have multiple already, it’d be worth to feed to your pet.
The only downside about this tome is that while it still heals, it doesn’t apply the Healing buff (massive increase in health regeneration) as most tiered tomes do. A good way to counter this is to keep a tiered tome with you and use that to heal, then quickly switch to the Prot and apply Armored to yourself.
Descriptions in-game are currently bugged, causing wis-affecting equipment to appear to have twice the effect they really do (this effect is only for the descriptions- not the actual result). This page shows the actual formulas, not the ones based off the (incorrect) descriptions.
