The Crystal Sword is a utility weapon that trades much of its damage for a one tile increase in range, making it the sword with the overall longest shot range (Pixie-Enchanted Sword has a slightly longer range, but the spread of the shots makes its effective range shorter while Divinity’s beam AoE has an effective range of 6.25 tiles). Despite doing much less damage than some alternative swords, this sword’s longer reach allows players to more easily hit enemies that are extremely dangerous to get close to, such as Oryx the Mad God 2.
This weapon sees its most effective use on Warrior. Since Warrior already has absurdly high attack and the Berserk ability from his helm, these two factors will usually make up for the damage reduction of the Crystal Sword while allowing Warrior to attack foes from a safer distance.
In Build 111 (Feb 2011) Mithril Sword was removed as a drop from enemies.
In Build 117.1 (Jun 2011), the Mithril Sword was removed from the game and replaced with the new Crystal Sword, changing all preexisting Mithril Swords into Crystal Swords.
When first released, Crystal Sword used to have the following sprite, prior to a redesign:
Before Exalt Version 22.214.171.124 (Dec 2020), this item had the following sprites:
During the 2017 April Fools event, the name and sprite of the Crystal Sword (and its shots) were temporarily changed to become those of the old Mithril Sword, though functionally the Crystal Sword was unchanged. This joke swap was repeated in the April Fools events the following years. The description, “You should go to the Nexus and show everyone!” may be a reference to a flash animation made by Khorde.
