Lair of Draconis

Class Advice

Melee Tips

One of the main focuses of this dungeon was to prevent it from being steamrolled by knights, and to make it very time-consuming to solo. With this in mind, melee classes have a tough time in this dungeon, as the shots the dragons fire, while avoidable from a distance, are extremely hard to dodge from sword range. So, while ranged classes are recommended if you want to try to complete this dungeon, if you want to survive as a melee class, try to:

  • Get your damage in quick, and get out, staying in deep will get you killed.
  • Don’t be afraid to sit off to the side and heal up (except on ivory and red dragons). Some people may refer to this as leeching, but in the end, your life is more important.
  • Watch out for the armor breaks, those will kill you along with sick if you’re too far in.
  • If you are a melee support class (paladin or warrior), buff all of the other ranged classes if you are too scared/laggy to go deep.
  • Try to stay near the support classes, melee in a LoD is never the best idea, and you’ll need heals often.

Ranged Classes

In the LoD, there really isn’t too much else to really focus on except shooting at the dragon you’re fighting (or minions/eggs), and dodging as much as you can. If you have a bow, this will come in handy at the red dragon when you have to kill the minions to fight the dragon, because bows pierce. Everything you would normally do while playing your class still applies when you’re fighting in the Lair.

Why and how to find the Lair of Draconis

Why

Stat Increase Potions Potion of Mana Potion of Life T12 Weapons T13 Armors Sullen Leaf Dragon Hide Armor Water Dragon Silk Robe Fire Dragon Battle Armor Indomptable Helm of Draconic Dominance Zaarvox's Heart Amulet of Drakefyre Midnight StarWine Cellar Incantation

The dragons are a good source of all pots, and can drop tops. However, life will only drop if the dragons are “Hardmoded” (Black dragon done first). In addition to that, there are 3 UT armors, a UT shuriken, a UT katana, and an ST warrior set. And as with most bosses, all bosses have a chance to drop Wine Cellar Incantations.

How

Aside from being purchasable in the nexus, the lair drops from the Rock Dragon (not 100%), an event boss that spawns once per realm.

The Lair of Draconis

In The Lair of Draconis, players will spawn in the center, near a dragon soul altar with dragon souls orbiting around it. It will tell players to name the color of the dragon that the players want to “console” with. Once a player names a color, the same colored dragon soul will open a hidden hallway and lead the players to a sleeping dragon. Once players are close enough, the dragon will wake up, starting the fight and at the same time, closing the hallway with a certain barrier. If you are “crushed” by the barrier by any chance, you will be KICKED off of the server, killing your chance for some excellent loot. So in other words, run as fast as you can with character through the rapidly closing hallway. Each dragon is unique to its color element and use attacks similar to its color. Each one had its own minions, weak, and are just simple annoyances to the player. However, some of them can cause status effects, softening you up for a deadly boss attack.

Which Dragon to start with

It’s extremely important to pick the right dragon in order to complete this dungeon. Even if you won’t be able to fight the Ivory, it’s still better to get plenty of loot then loose all of those chances just to attempt for a midnight star.

Limoz

Reasons to start first

Limoz is pretty easy to do if you have a medium sized group. His attacks are easily dodgeable and he himself is fairly easy to grind. Limoz is also beginner friendly, allowing probably everyone (except for those who risked too much or did stunts) to survive this fight and still have a lot of people to move on.

Reasons to not start first

Many people say that Limoz is always easy, no matter what. But don’t listen to them. If you don’t have enough dps to beat his crazy heal rate, you WILL get stuck. The one thing that makes Limoz so hard is that his shields give him a crazy healing rate, which was apparently supposed to prevent soloing (except that it can be bypassed with enough time and the right dps).

Nikao

Reasons to start first

Many people don’t realize this, but I will guarantee you- Nikao is THE easiest of the dragons if done first. His attacks are super weak, and he barely even fires them. If you don’t have enough people to cap dps as required for Limoz, this dragon is for you.

Reasons to not start first

Many people still assume that easy mode Nikao is still as hard as hardmode Nikao, despite that this is not true. Many people will freak out when they see Nikao all over them and will nexus immediately, even if Nikao can’t kill them. This may leave out only a few player remaining just because of the specter of fear.

Pyrr

Reasons to start first

There is really only one good reason why to start with Pyrr. That is only if you have enough steamroll power to survive one hard dragon, since once that steamroll power is gone, you are screwed.

Reasons not to start first

Pyrr is arguably the most dangerous of the dragons when done incorrectly (which unfortunately is extremely difficult to do correctly without steamroll power). If you do not have enough steamroll power nor have enough skill to “solo” it correctly, then you will get stuck, and more likely die or nexus immediately. Plus, even if you manage to defeat Pyrr, he buffs the rest of the dragons, which gives them red bullets that break armor. Armor break is the worst debuff in the dungeon, so sometimes it can make the rest of the dragons harder.

Feargus

Reasons to start first

Feargus is by far the most popular dragon to start with, because he triggers hardmode, which can lead to a fifth dragon in the end. Plus, once the dragons are buffed, you can get a possibility to get better pots, including life.

Reasons not to start first

Hardmode LoD requires tremendous steamroll power in order to complete, which most people do not care about. Feargus requires range, so if your group only consists of melees, then you’ll have a very hard time trying to hit the boss. Plus, if triggering hardmode is done without enough steamroll power, then most people will just get stuck on Feargus and will eventually nexus. Although he is the easiest of the dragons to solo in hardmode, you’ll get stuck with the other dragons.

The Dragons on easy-mode

Okay, okay, the dragons are not exactly easy, well in comparison to their harder and buffed counterparts, they are much easier. Below the following, I will tell you about each of the dragons in easy mode, placing them in the order of easy to hardest. Please consider the fact that if Feargus, the black dragon, is battled at any time, any dragons following after him will become set on hard mode.

Limoz

Often known as the softest of the four dragons. With no serious status effects, players will easily shred Limoz to bits with the help of the teammates. Limoz will continuously fly around firing shotguns and summoning Veridian Hatchlings, or in other words, its minions. They will wander around, slowly approaching players and firing harmless shots. Overtime, Limoz will summon a shield of moving objects and still can be hit by classes that have piercing weapons. After Limoz is defeated, a test chest will appear in the center of the room.

Nikao

A notably harder dragon than Limoz, many players often debate whether Nikao is one of the most difficult dragons in the dungeon, along with Pyrr and Feargus. Players should note that in the center of the room, there will be a pool of dark water in which Nikao will usually stand in for a large portion of the battle. The water will hinder classes with shorter range, due to its slowing effects as a liquid. Long range characters will fire away at ease, only to be bothered by its annoying minions. Its minions will approach players and chase them at a distance, firing long range shots. For a large portion of the battle, Nikao will stand in the puddle of water that is in the center of the room, continuously firing 360 shots that can be easily dodged with long range classes. It highly advised not to tank them in, for they can give you slowed, making you more likely to be hit by bullets, or to be finished off by his minions. After Nikao has taken significant damage, it will begin to orbit around the edges of the room, firing large, fast, and hard hitting bullets aimed at players. During this phase, it will be extremely difficult to hit Nikao, but be patient, as it will drop excellent loot. Once it is defeated, he will create a test chest in the center of the room.

Pyrr

Possibly the most dangerous of the 4 main dragons. Pyrr is known for being especially detrimental to melees. When activated, (just walk up to him), Pyrr starts to fill the room with lava, leaving a 5 tile wide circle for players to stand on. During this phase Pyrr will spawn its minions and shoot 8 high-damage bullets in 8 different directions. Its minions will start to circle players, firing powerful shots at them. Only focus on survival as Pyrr is invincible during this phase. It’s recommended to have a priest or a paladin, as the high-damage bullets from the minions will quickly kill most players. After a while Pyrr will flash and enter his second phase, where it will begin shooting and chasing the nearest player. Get as much damage in as possible before he goes back to phase 1. If you’re an unmaxed melee, it’s best just stay out of the fight, as Pyrr shoots armor breaking shots at high damage. Once Pyrr is defeated, a test chest will spawn in the center of the room.

Feargus

Feargus, the buffing dragon, buffs all of the other 3 dragons into hard-mode if defeated first. Feargus is extremely hard to defeat if fought with a small group. In the four corners of the room, there will be a small wall that can shelter players from his dangerous bullets. During the battle, Feargus will summon clone versions of itself and will orbit around the center of the room, shooting at players. Be careful of dodging its bullets, for each one gives a designated status effect, red will give armor-broken, black stars will give pet stasis, big blue shots will give slowed, green gives sick, big white circles give weak. With its continuous spray of bullets, Feargus will be difficult to approach, making it one of the hardest dragons in the dungeon. Be mindful of your location, as being in the center of the room is very dangerous because Feargus can very quickly return to the center, firing bullets around itself that could easily kill a maxed character. Feargus is easy for long range, but melees will find themselves in a bit of a jam due to getting hit by the armor breaking bullets. When defeated, A test chest will spawn in the center of the room.

The Dragons on hard-mode

You thought the dragons were easy on easy mode? Now, to the hard part. In order to go to this mode, you’ll have to battle Feargus first before any other dragon. When done, you should notice that the dragons appeared to be super buffed and have a different name like from Pyrr the Crimson Dragon to Pyrr the Wicked. Also consider the fact that in hard mode, the difficulty of each dragon is much different than the dragons on easy mode.

Pyrr

At first it was considered the hardest dragon in easy mode, now it becomes the easiest, because as the rest of the dragons get a complete buff, Pyrr stays the same except for a few bullet buffs. Even if you are a fragile long ranged class, don’t sweat! All you have to do is to follow my tips. When Pyrr begins the phase where he sits in the center of the room, firing a bunch of different bullets and turning the room into a ring with lava, you’ll have to circle the outer part of the ring, while allowing the little dragons to chase you. Then, you shoot the dragons while circling the ring. Once all the little dragons are killed, the lava will then disappear, and Pyrr is after you! When in this chase phase, keep on running in big circles, allowing Pyrr to chase you. In the meantime, keep shooting while running in circles so that you could take some damage on him while keeping away from his bullets. When Pyrr goes back to the lava phase, repeat this over and over until Pyrr dies!

Feargus

Feargus can also be considered the second easiest dragon instead of the second hardest when on hard mode. Unfortunately, it is still very difficult, and even large groups tend to be stuck with this dragon, especially when there are no ranged or paladins with oreo/warriors with jug. What would be done is to first clear the entire room from little dragons. If kept alive, they will crazily heal Feargus, making it even harder to both fight the dragon or even to clear the little dragons later on. (Be careful, though, as there are trolls who will summon Feargus right away to give everyone a suffering.) When you’re done, you can summon Feargus. During the battle, simply lure Feargus to you, while dodging as many bullets you can and draining his health (Be careful to not drag him too much into a wall, or he’ll trap you, sit on you, and no more 8/8 char!). Also, be careful, as Feargus also summons dragons that look like him and can turn invisible. After you do this, he’s dead!

Nikao

Nikao’s taunts make him look scary and hard, doesn’t he? But when you’re in hard mode, well, he is hard. This is also another dragon that big groups lacking temporary invincible players/ranged tend to get stuck in. Even ranged classes can get bluffed with him, as Nikao heals fairly fast and constantly shooting incredible amounts of bullets like a raving lunatic. But don’t worry! During Nikao’s firs phase, he’ll just simply sit in the middle and shoot his wave of bullets. Look for any small breach/safe spot right in his bullets and begin pounding on him. When that’s done, he’ll begin chasing you. Let him chase you, but run in big circles so that Nikao misses most of his shots while shooting him. Be sure that you constantly shoot him, because he will heal! Nikao’s phases will repeat over and over, except that it’ll keep getting harder and harder. When you finish his “full onslaught” phase, you’re done!

Limoz

The altar in the center will try to reassure you by saying that Limoz is the easiest, but don’t let that fool you! Limoz, in fact, can be considered the hardest dragon for all classes, especially because his battle phases make him so hard to damage. During his battle phase, Limoz will spawn huge amounts of shields that will circle him, while shooting a blaze of high-powered bullets. And the worst part is that the shields will constantly heal Limoz, forcing the players to go deep on him, risking themselves into getting killed by a mini-shotgun, making it extremely dangerous for any ranged class. However, when you’ve successfully done all the damage on him, Limoz will then go easy on you. He’ll just simply move around with his little hatchlings, firing a ring of easily dodgeable bullets one at a time. But when you finish this phase, beware! Limoz will then return to battle phase, and the hard part will come back, sometimes will become even more difficult as the later phases include Limoz firing a spiral of high-powered bullets at the same time. But if you survive, he’ll drop that test chest you want! (And the useless crap if you’re lucky)

Ivory Wyvern

Despite being the final boss of LoD, the Ivory Wyvern isn’t all that scary, much less harder than any of the four other dragons, but during his last phases, the fight becomes anti-leech. When you first enter his room, he’ll just sit on his little block in the middle of the top side and say some things. When he says “Behold the glory of my true powers”, get ready for a fight. When the Ivory says this, he will then spawn four Mirror Wyverns to will shoot streams of bullets. What you must do is to dodge the bullets by moving from one side to another, while shooting the real Ivory at the same time (during this phase, the Ivory Wyvern is either sitting on that same block or is moving side-to-side as well) When you take enough health out of him, all the mirrors will die, and the Ivory will continue moving side-to-side, shooting a semi-circle of the same bullets that the mirrors shot. In this phase, move side-to-side as well, shooting the Ivory at the same time so that you can get in a little closer. Once this is done, the Wyvern will then go back to sitting on that block it was always in (I guess he likes that block), spawn four dragon souls, and stay there doing nothing, invulnerable. In order to go to the next phase, the souls must be destroyed. Dodge the bullets each by each while killing each soul, which is simple for experienced players. When all souls are destroyed, the Ivory will then move to the center of the room and fire a bunch of colorful bullets in a circular pattern. During this phase, simply sit on the top left corner of his circular patterned attacks (which, by the way, is a nice breach) and start draining him, while getting ready for the next phase that can happen any time. The warning for the next phase is the Ivory spawning the dragon balls on the corners that everyone hates. When they are spawned, move in towards the Ivory. During this phase, while the dragon balls are firing the bullets, the Ivory will stay sitting in the center of the room, firing the same bullets the he fired in his first phase one at a time. Since the Ivory’s attacks aren’t dangerous at all, this phase is very easy to do, unless you get freaked out by the dragon balls, despite that their bullets only cover the corners of the map to prevent leeching. Circle the Ivory

“Lazy Mode”

Feargus and Nikao are quite time-consuming and tedious to fight normally, but one can use the St. Abraham’s Wand or Wizard spells to hit them from a far enough range without triggering their normal attack patterns. It can be tricky to aim the spell directly at them from a long range, but the following method makes it easier.

  • Play on Adobe Flash Projector.
  • In the “View” tab, select 100%.
  • Enlarge the window such that it spans the entire height of the screen. This will provide extra viewing distance to the player.
