Notes
The Mad God’s Messenger Set was the eighteenth special themed set to be released.
In addition to the stat bonuses it provides, this set’s wand also fires two wavy shots, with a decreased range of 7.5 tiles (true range of 5.72) and a fire rate of 75%. The ability swaps Healing for DEF decrease (-5 DEF) and ATT boost (+20 ATT) for 3 seconds, as well as giving a 1% chance to become Drunk for 2 seconds after taking at least 50 damage.
A priest with WC tops and a Ring of the Pyramid would have 790 HP, 460 MP, 58 ATT, 42 DEF, 55 SPD, 55 DEX, 46 VIT, 81 WIS, making for a DPS of 1586-1210 (0-60 DEF). This set instead offers 2517-1851 DPS, a clear increase on the infamously small priest damage output, further boosted to 3082-2417 when under the influence of the ATT boost, surpassing even a Wizard with tiered items, while still retaining the ability to pierce enemies. This DPS does come at the price of needing to be at dagger range, a situation even rendered slightly more dangerous by the DEF decrease that, while small, still decreases survivability (though it is compensated by the 40 HP increase). The major caveat, however, is that the ability heals 100 less HP than a Hallowed Language for only 10 MP less. Taking the 55 MP decrease of the set means that to continue ensuring effective healing, a divine MP heal pet is strongly advised. While the Drunk effect does not often come into play, the surprise lag it brings is also a significant risk to your survival. All this adds up to a set that is highly dangerous, yet highly effective.
Trivia
This set’s art and concept appears to be based off of unused sprites for an unreleased ST set from the Kabam era:
The set is apparently themed after the Messengers of Oryx enemies, although the enemies were added months after the release of this set.
