The Abyss of Demons is a medium-level dungeon that is a staple source of Potions of Vitality for many players. It is also the drop location of the untiered Demon Blade and two pieces of the Magmatic Mystic ST Set.

The normal enemies in the dungeon attack in groups, have low health, and inflict no status effects, but deal high damage. In addition, much of the dungeon is covered with lava, meaning high defense and/or HP is recommended for surviving the dungeon.

The entrance to the Abyss of Demons is commonly found upon slaying White Demons and lasts 30 seconds before disappearing.

The Realm Eye says:
The depraved depths of the abyss were made by Archdemon Malphas. At first it was nothing more than a personal shelter, but it soon became the home of many demons.
The souls of the wicked are disposed of in the realm’s lava fissures, left to endure an agonizing eternity together.
Strictly speaking, Archdemon Malphas is the ruler of these lesser demons since he created the chambers. But in reality, he suffers just as much as them.

Key

[ ] The Abyss of Demons Key is available in the Nexus for 50 Realm Gold.

Guide

See the Abyss of Demons Guide for a complete walk-through on the dungeon and all its enemies.

Contents

Layout

The dungeon consists of a large network of small, square rooms linked by very short hallways. Each room consists of simple red ground and wall tiles. Piles of bones are scattered throughout the dungeon. Rivers of lava extend throughout the entire area. Atop every lava pit found in hallways between rooms, broken tiles are found which allow players to safely cross. While stepping on these fragile tiles, the player must tread carefully, therefore impeding the speed of crossing.

There is a non-guaranteed chance for at least one treasure room to appear in the dungeon. Treasure rooms can only have an exit in the south.

Tips

Boss Tips and Strategies

Be prepared for what may come: You should avoid lava at all costs, as it slows your movement, deals damage, and renders you vulnerable to the attacks of approaching enemies.
Lava only hurts your feet: Simply rotate your camera angle so that your feet stay on the lava bridges to avoid being hurt by it.

Treasure Room Tips and Strategies

! - The Abyss Idol turns portions of the floor in its room into lava when activated.
! - The Abyss Idol shoots bullets which paralyze, so if you’re hit while in the lava, you’re toast.

Sometimes there are 2 (or more) Treasure Rooms in the Abyss of Demons and there is a simple method to find out if you were lucky enough to encounter two: When you defeat the Abyss Idol, the lava in the hallway in the south should drain out. If it doesn’t, there’s likely another Treasure Room elsewhere. Pay attention however: if the hallway is not flooded with lava, it does not necessarily mean that a second Treasure Room does not exist.

If you do not think you are able to defeat the Idol on your own:
  1. Trying won’t hurt. Even if you will not succeed in slaying the Abyss Idol by yourself, you will likely gain knowledge about it that will help you in a future attempt. Do not be afraid to nexus!
  2. Try to defeat Archdemon Malphas first so if you do choose to escape to nexus, the time spent in the Abyss will not have been completely wasted.
How to kill
  1. Clear the room of the smaller demons before shooting the Idol. If you have accidentally hit the Idol, move on to step 2 ↓

  2. Once the room is clear, attack the Idol and wreak havoc on it using your special ability and weapon. Make it crumble under your flurry of attacks!

  3. Portions of the room should be getting flooded with lava which disappears after a couple of seconds. When you see the Idol throwing lava towards you, attempt to move to dry portion of the room.

Tip: If you have an adequate amount of defense on your character, you will be able to stand close to the Idol and be able to consistently damage it, albeit having to endure the shots sent at you by the Idol. You will be amazed by how weak the Idol is without the help of its lava!

History

As of Build 123.3, Treasure Rooms have gotten the chance of appearing in this dungeon. These rooms contain a “Mini-Boss”: the Abyss Idol.

In Release ????, Potions of Defense were added as a guaranteed drop from Archdemon Malphas and the Abyss Idol. As of build 27.7.X6, the bosses were no longer guaranteed to drop a Potion of Defense. Instead, the Toxic Sewers took the Abyss of Demons’ place as the main source of Potions of Defense among the Godlands dungeons.

In Exalt Version 1.1.0.0 (Sep 2020), this dungeon recieved a significant rework for MotMG 2020. For more information about what the dungeon was previously, see Abyss of Demons (Original).
